Help for Mira's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Our MiraBug ended up in Dorenbechers ICU with Diabetes Ketoacidosis yesterday after a brutal 48 hours of severe illness. The great news, she is on her way to recovery and we'll be learning how to ensure she'll have an amazing life with Type 1 Diabetes.

Unfortunately on that path, we also will have to find a way to pay the medical expenses from this costly yet life saving trip. My exhausted but concerned Mama brain ventured the Google rabbit hole at 3am to discover the average cost per day of a stay in a Pediatric ICU is $6,500-$8,300! Our expected stay is 4 days, so naturally we're a little concerned about what this will mean financially for us.

While we are insured, for example Mira's birth, still ended up with a hospital bill of $10,000 to pay out of pocket. As that was a huge hit to our family, I'm asking for any and all donations to help us pay off this medical debt and help us all rest a little easier during these challenging times.

We are so grateful for all the love and support our community provides us. May the universe continue to connect us to be within each other's hearts and bless us with the greatest wealth of all, our health.

With Grace & Gratitude. ✨
The Killgore Family,
Michael, Bria & Mira

Past 48 hours of brutal parental torture:
Mama Adrenaline is no joke. I've been running on pure fumes for the past 48 hours+... It was a slightly longer journey to end up where we needed to be, but ultimately I am so grateful for the amazing care we are receiving.

Mira Bug went to the ER yesterday after a couple of days of malaise and a week of constipation yielding no results from stool softeners. We were worried about a bowel malrotation... left the ER in Newberg around 3am with instructions and a cloudy at best plan for next steps but with relief that no such malrotation or bowel obstruction was present.

She continued to decline, even after treating her and having a few productive bowel movements. Something was wrong. She should have been responding, but instead her coloring continued to change from a healthy pink to a gray-blue. Her hands and feet were cold, her lips were chapped and she'd been breathing heavily, showing signs of respiratory distress and I was having trouble getting her to respond.

911 proved to be amazing and delivered us an incredibly knowledgeable but more importantly curious EMT who wasn't sure why the symptoms she was observing didn't match what we were told at the ER. She checked Mira's glucose levels and they were off the chart at 529, she checked them twice and calibrated the meter against her self. My Mama instincts on high, I knew if we were going back to the ER, I was taking Mira to Dorenbechers. This amazing lady in her 37 years as an EMT knew something was wrong, gave us the go ahead with Mira's vitals being stable enough and confirmed it was worth the drive to get Mira to a pediatric hospital.

Within 5 minutes of arriving to the Pediatric ER we were in a room with an entire team of nurses and doctors working on our babe. Mira was in Diabetes Ketoacidosis (DKA) with an onset of less than 24 hours since symptoms began. She was on the verge of a diabetic coma.

We're currently in the Pediatric ICU, all vitals are stable and she's responding well to treatment and insulin. She now has Type 1 Diabetes and will have to learn to manage her diet and glucose levels while she also learns to read, do long division and drive a car.

I can't stress enough how important it is to know the warning signs of T1D, her pediatrician never mentioned anything, it's not something I've heard other mother's discuss, it's not talked about enough for how life threatening this condition is, and we need to share this information with new Mamas.
