On September 25th, I will be flying down to Peru for six months. I will be living in and volunteering at a chidren's hospital/orphanage: Hogar de San Francisco de Assis, situated just outside of Lima. This is not the first time I have been there. In high school, I spent two weeks at the Hogar, and the experience changed my life. I fell in love with the children, their joy and resilience, as well as the dedication of the volunteers who stay for long periods of time at the Hogar. So I decided that one day I would go back and help however I could, for however long I could.
This is the home of countless little angels, whose smiles and courage have warmed the hearts of so many. These children are all admitted to the hospital for different reasons: Some are born with congenital diseases that their parents cannot afford to take care of. These include Cerebral Palsy, Cleft Lip, Clubbed Feet, Cataracts, blindness... etc. Or, the children have been abandonded, are malnurished, and need intensive care.
These kids are brought to the home where their medical expenses and needs are taken care of, including what can be years of rehabilitation.
Your support will help take care of those costs: the surgeries, the medicine, the chicken and rice that they eat for dinner almost every night... etc. The Hogar(home) depends solely on the generosity of others to be able to provide for the children they care for.
