My name is Dan Modzik Jr. My Fiancé, Louisa Ellis recently passed away completely unexpectedly at the sweet young age of 30. Louisa and I have shared many amazing memories and raised 2 boys, Michael (11), and Daniel (6). Louisa was without a doubt the greatest mother that any boys could hope to have but was also my best friend and my soul mate. Louisa dedicated her life to raising our boys to be the best they could and to help others. Before the age of 30 Louisa had completed her Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Masters Degree in Business Management, and a 2nd Master of Science in Management. Through all this this amazing women continued to work a full time job for the State of Nevada for the majority of her career as well as running the entire household. While I tried to help cook, do the dishes, and clean etc. I usually made a bigger mess and burned our meal! Louisa managed to do the job of a full time homemaker, full time student, all while working a full time 40+ hours a week job. Oh and making sure our boys were getting help with their homework and practicing their reading!
Louisa taught me how to cook some so I could take over that duty, but that was just so that she could take on new projects like starting her own consulting company and doing a lot of work for free with friends who had a business by creating web sites, business cards, brochures, and managed their social networking sites! In the middle of all of this she would drop what she was doing when the phone rang and it was a friend in need. Maybe just someone with a flat, maybe a friend that had an argument with their husband/wife, or a family member that was on their way to the hospital, Louisa would drop what she was doing to be there. During financial hardships Louisa managed our limited budget, began couponing like crazy and even when we could barely make ends meet at times if a friend or family member called crying because they could not pay their power, or were going to be evicted, Louisa would be there to give what little she had to keep everyone on their feet. Without a doubt the most selfless person I have ever met. Oh not to mention the years she spent as a volunteer fire fighter!
Louisa and I had been together what would have been 11 years this July. Over a third of our lives together Louisa taught me many things I never thought I would ever know, such as exactly what love is, how to cook without using a microwave! And that there is such thing as a soul mate.
Over the last 3 years of Louisa's life she began to suffer from severe migraines. They began to progressively get worse until she was at a point where she was in a single constant migraine cycle for 24/7, never stopping or easing off. She gone to the emergency room no matter what tests were run, or IV drugs given, the Dr.'s were baffled and could not do anything for her. She began to see a neurologist about the migraines and began a whole new regimen of medications that are known to help with migraines, all had zero effect. It was around this time where Louisa had been terminated from her position because she was not physically capable of functioning at work. She provided our family by ensuring we all received Medicaid benefits (as I was forced to resign my job working nights to stay home and keep an eye on her and watch the boys).
Louisa being one to never just sit around began the job hunt no matter how terrible she felt. She once again landed a job with the state. I began some part time courier work but Louisa's medical condition only continued to deteriorate to the point where she was once again let go of a promising career all because she had a medical condition. This last year had been very difficult. Me trying out my courier thing, I was involved in 3 accidents in 6 weeks. Luckily only one was remotely bad, a semi hit me on Interstate 80 and sent me rolling over about 5 times down a 20 foot embankment. When I was going to the hospital the medics told me I should have died in that crash. It was around 10:00pm when I was wheeled into the hospital and Louisa was the first person there. I was very fortunate to have her watch over me for several days as could hardly move. Even in her chronic sever pain condition she was there making sure that the kids were fed and off to school each day, and do everything she could to help me.
For those that knew Louisa, you know the person I am talking about. If you called for help, she was there in a flash to do whatever she could! For those that did not have the privilege of ever meeting or getting to know Louisa, you truly missed out on something special. There are probably many of you out there that never met her but she still did something extraordinary to help you out in some way. That is the kind of person she was.
Louisa was an extremely proud woman who would do anything to make sure our boys were being taken care of. It is with such a heavy heart and extreme humbleness that I have created this fund. We have been going through very hard times lately like millions of others out there. She was the reason we kept afloat month to month. Because of recent medical expenses and other things I am coming to you, those that loved her, or were good friends with, maybe worked with, or maybe you didn't really know her but she somehow helped you with something in your time of need.
I do not take this lightly, and understand if you cannot donate to help, I just ask that those that can, or know someone that may be willing to help out an Angel's boys, pass this on to those you know. Every little penny goes a long way to help with the final expenses, and to ensure that our amazing boys, Michael & Daniel have at least some of the things they are going to need. I thank you deeply from the bottom of my heart just for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Dan Modzik Jr.
ps. I know Louisa is still in the hearts of us all, and will continue on being there to help those that she knew and loved, so keep an eye open and listen for that angelic voice.... we will all see and hear her around us!
