Knox Stephens was born May 10, 2014. He had some complications with air pockets in his lungs, therefore he was admitted to the NICU for his first two days of life. After five days in the hospital, Knox overcame his difficult start and was released to go home with his family. At five weeks old, he went to see an eye doctor for an abnormality in his eye. His family was told he was completely blind in his left eye and was thought to have Retinoblastoma, which is a form of eye cancer. He was referred to an eye specialist who was able to see him the following day. After visiting with the specialist, it was confirmed that he indeed had Retinoblastoma. Further testing showed that it is in both eyes. The eye specialist told the family they needed to make arrangements to get to St. Jude in Memphis by Monday, June 16. The plan for treatment will be decided once Knox is evaluated at St. Jude. We are almost certain that treatment will include the removal of one eye, if not both, chemotherapy and/or radiation.
The family's most important request is prayer.
