Kenya Mission Trip

Donation protected

Hello! My name is Derek Starr, I am a 21 year old Special Education major at Kent State University. I am trying to acquire the funds to go on a 3 week mission trip to Kenya as a teacher's assistant in one of the local slum schools near Nairobi. In Kenya I will work as a tutor
with students who come from backrounds of abuse, poverty and being orphaned.

"A lack of education is one of the factors that imprison people in a life of poverty. Assisting a teacher in a church-sponsored school or helping to tutor children can make a major difference in a child's life."

About Me

Education has always been something of enormous importance to me and, having a learning disability myself, I have always drawn inspiration from educators. When looking at the people who I believe have significantly affected my life and inspire me, many of them have one special trait in common, that they are teachers. This being said, I also have a special love in my heart for humanity and people and I want to spend my life bettering the lives of others and making a difference. To me, no field could possibly accomplish this as well as education.

I have spent the last few years of my life volunteering, and working with individuals with disabilities and at a Christian summer camp. And although I have felt a great deal of accomplishment in these, I feel that the Lord has been calling me toward something new and ambitious for some time. Not knowing anything about mission trips or where I would go I thought and prayed on the idea for a while and one of the first places that came to me was Kenya, a strange one considering I didn't know anything about the country but its name. Quickly after searching however, I found this ministry which seems to fit me almost too perfectly.

Funds
Trip Administration fee: $150
Room & Board: $495

If I am able to acquire these funds I am hoping to schedule my trip this June. That gives me approximately six months to gain the money for the trip.

What your help will mean

I truly hope that you will consider contributing to my cause. Should you decide to donate, it will contribute to a number of positive outcomes. You will be helping me in my goal of impacting the lives of others, and also help with my personal growth culturally, professionally, and spiritually.

You will also be helping to improve the lives of children who come from a background of disappointment, giving them the gift of education, and helping them to move toward a brighter future. Finally, you will be contributing to spreading love to these children, some of whom may not have ever had anyone show it to them.

The last is an especially noble cause that anyone should be able to identify with. The unconditional love of Christ, and for those who are nonreligious, love as a concept, is something that the world is in dear need of. My hope is to spread that love to those who may otherwise not have it and I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who will help me. In doing so you won't just be helping me to spread this love on my own, but by acting you will be spreading it equally.
I hope that you will consider, if you have any questions feel free to contact me or reffer to the links below.

God bless, and thank you!
