Katie's Back to Balance with SCDS

Spende geschützt
"You always have to remember to take care of yourself first and foremost, because when you stop taking care of yourself you get out of balance and you really forget how to take care of others."
 - Jada Pinkett Smith -

She's my cousin, my bestfriend and my homegirl.  Katie was diagnosed with bilateral Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence (SCDS) in 2011 as a result of childbirth.

Some of her early symptoms were imbalance and constant headaches and has progressed drastically over the past 7 years to having autophony which is hearing amplified self generated noises like eye movement, heartbeat, creaking joints, chewing and foot stomp sounds while walking.  Brain fog,  pulsatile tinnitus, fatigue, hyperacusis and vertigo are some of her other symptoms, which have been increasing for years, and have now become intolerable.  She has secluded herself from friends and family, has a hard time being in social situations and doesn't laugh like she used to.  I haven't heard her signature laugh in years.  Life just isn't the same for her anymore.

After endless researching of options, she has found a doctor in Louisiana (Dr. Gerard Gianoli) who has very successful surgical outcomes in this disease (SCDS). Her first surgery on her left side in 2015 with Dr. Gianoli was successful. Dr. Gianoli is a Third-Party-Free provider which means that they do not participate with any medical insurance.  They are able to practice medicine based on their best medical judgment as opposed to practicing medicine according to the direction of insurance companies.

Her second surgery is scheduled for later next month. This second and, hopefully, final surgery will end years of suffering and help her get back to herself again.  This has affected every aspect of her life, finances included.

On behalf of The Guille's I would like to ask for your help to eliminate some of the financial burden.  Katie's surgery will cost her more than $20,000 which includes, pre-surgery testing, surgery and travel costs to Louisiana.  She will be on bed rest and stay in Louisiana for a week post-op and then out of work 8+ weeks.

Everyone who knows the Guille's, know what a wonderful family they are.  Good people deserve good things.  Please help me with raising funds for Katie to help get her "back to balance" and enjoying life again.

Thank you for your support.   - Tamra  Haselman -
