Hensy’s Shed

Sam Willers suffered a brain injury in 2013 after an assault in the village which resulted in him fighting for his life in ICU Southampton and against all odds Sam survived and after 9 months in ICU and hospital and rehab where he had to relearn how to eat and sit up and walk all the things we take for granted, he went home to his family...before his brain injury Sam was a drummer in a band and an extreme skateboarder and a hard working construction worker, all of which he could no longer do after his brain injury...

Sam started going firstly to Headway the brain injury organisation for support and then joined Manshed where they took him under their wing and Sam learnt woodworking skills, creating amazing handmade items and turned beautiful bowls.... he had found a creative passion working with wood...

Fast forward to 2020 and the lockdown -fabric hens started appearing around the village of Denmead Hampshire, no one knew where these hens were coming from or who was making them, but they kept appearing all over the village, every hundred hens there appeared a giant one...there were hens for every occasion, from Easter to Valentine’s Day, jubilee ones and business specific ones and so far nearly 800 hens have been made and have bought joy to so many...

So to the point, it's with permission and a heavy heart that today the happy hen makers are being revealed....

Melody wanted something to do for others to put a smile on people's faces during these very difficult times, and so the idea of the happy hens were born... a year in and Sam asked if he could help and he joined with Melody his mum and started to help and design the happy hens and to spread the love and joy to other people, along with a top secret team of helpers that would help usually under the cover of darkness hide them around the village....and even further afield, they have also been mentioned in the Portsmouth newspaper and even a segment on This Morning TV...

A week ago Sam became extremely unwell has his family (mum Melody and brothers Ben Tom and Jacob and their partners) were given the scary news that Sam had meningitis and he was put on life support like his previous brain injury and old he would most probably not make it through the night and for 6 days he clung to life....

Thankfully Sam has made amazing progress and even though he is out of ICU he still remains in hospital with a few complications......

This is where the Hensy family need you and your friends or businesses just everyone....

The family and friends would love to raise enough money to get Sam his own workshop in their garden ... this would hopefully allow Sam to carry on working with wood and give him a sense of purpose that he needs... any money raised would also go towards getting him some tools and any adjustments that might be needed at home....

Each hen came with a numbered note which ended with the words 'know you are loved' now is the time to repay the kindness and show this amazing Hensy family that they are loved to..

So if you have found a hen, craved a hen or loved hearing about the joy they bring people or are have compassion for others or to show support to this incredible family..please please donate to this worthy cause...
