A note from Roman's mama:
For those of you who don't know Mr. Roman, he was surrendered by his original owner to an Atlanta animal shelter in 2020.He has since transformed from a sad, malnourished, sick and neglected pup into a healthy, happy dog and deserves many years more to enjoy his new life. Roman is a lover of people and an IMMENSE lover of life. His hobbies include obsessing over his orange ball and carrying it all over, sitting on humans laps, getting all the pets, and putting his butt up against anyone who will let him. He finds the biggest joy in the smallest of things, and he has taught me how to do the same. He will be the first one to cuddle and console you when you're sad and in need of a friend. Mr. Roman is my rock, my support system, and my kid. He has saved me from my darkest, most depressed days and my loneliest nights. Now is my time to return the favor. If the tables were turned, I know that he wouldn't give up on me. So I will fight this fight with him every step of the way for as long as he is willing.
On May 31st after a critical medical episode and being rushed to the hospital, I received the devastating news that Roman's immune system is attacking his red blood cells, and he is no longer making red blood cells of his own. He was admitted to Blue Pearl hospital in Sarasota and was then transferred to a more advanced specialty hospital in Tampa, where he has received in depth diagnostics and testing, two rounds of blood transfusions, multiple hospital stats, and medications. Right now his condition is being treated as PIMA (Precursor targeted immune-mediated anemia).
The first 72 hours costed around 7k, and his continued treatment, medications, and never ending hospital stays and visits have put us to 10k in just two weeks. While his prognosis at this time is truly unknown, we know that to give him a chance at all to fight this fight, he will need continued care. It can take weeks to a few months to know if treatment is working. With this, I am setting a goal but will adjust up or down depending on what happens day to day. Please know that if the donations surpass his current expenses, the funding will be at least temporarily turned off and put on hold to ensure that all moneys are being used appropriately. If, by some chance there is a small amount of funds left over (which I am not anticipating), the moneys will be donated to organizations that help other animals in need who require medical attention, but whose owners cannot afford it. The goal here is to give life ❤️
Times are extremely difficult for everyone right now. We all have our own families and stressors, so no dollars are expected, while each dollar is a blessing. There is literally no amount too small; it all truly counts. Mr. Roman and I thank you all just for being here and being a part of his story. Love to you all.
