You’re in your car, driving home from the last school run of the week. Your daughter is laughing; it makes you laugh too. You find yourself eager to get through the traffic so you can prepare for a night of celebration. A special dinner has been organised to show your daughter just how proud you are of her latest scholastic achievements. Your son is filling you in on his day, telling you about all the things the world has to offer him, and you’re reminded of just how perfect everything in your world is. You’re happy. You’re loved. You have a place to call home. And you’re just months away from a life milestone, twenty years of marriage to the man of your dreams…the father of your children. You’re more than blessed.
As you open the front door, you instantly know something is wrong. What awaits you is a nightmare. You scream, you scream so hard you can taste the blood in the back of your throat. You’ve never felt pain like you do in this moment, and as you look to your soul mate, the man of your dreams, your heart shatters into a million tiny pieces. He’s no longer breathing. He’s no longer alive. How could he have taken his own life?
There was no warning. There were no signs. He was always so happy, probably one of the happiest men most people had ever met…
This isn’t the plot of a story book. This is the reality of Australian author, Amanda Howard, and the children who are now living each day without their father.
Amanda needs our help. She’s never needed to ask for help before. They had both been hard workers. They had built their lives from humble beginnings. But now, the world is a different and scary place for Amanda. As a community, we cannot sit by and watch her lose her home, to lose the only place that still holds the memories of her husband, Steve. To this end, I have taken it upon myself to ask for help on Amanda’s behalf. We need to help her save their family home and assist her through the next few months as she returns to full-time work and begins the arduous task of building a life she never dreamed she would have to – a life without her husband and on a single income.
Amanda has always been someone who has given without question to her community and others in need. Now it’s time for us to help her. Any amount you are able to give will be more than appreciated and put to good use.
Please help the Howard/Bendeich family to find their feet again and deal with the struggles of the here and now.
