Hellenic Families In Need
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Bartzokis, and I'm from Boca Raton, FL. I started this project, Hellenic Families In Need, to help families in Greece that are starving and out of work because of the political situation and bankrupt economy.
During my trip there about 7 years ago -- the trip that inspired me to start this organization -- I saw many children, teenagers, and couples begging for food on the sidewalks and going through trash bins looking for something to eat. It struck me that these people could be me or anyone else I know, caught in the middle of a bankrupt economy, in a country where social services are scarce to non-existent. When I came back to the U.S., I looked for ways to help. I connected with a woman who runs a grassroots organization to help the needy and hungry in Greece. I vowed to her that I would do everything I could to help raise awareness of the situation.
Since then, I founded Hellenic Families In Need (HFN). The money raised through HFN is used to buy food and medicine for care packages that are delivered directly to the most impoverished families in Greece.
Any amount would aid Greece's dire situation and help feed the hungry. Thanks for your support!
