Hi, my name is Chris Clark and I need your help to bring a special character I’ve been working on to life! Her name is “Glonda.” She’s all about her natural hair and all about inspiring others to love theirs too. Glonda is just an average 3 year old, full of curiosity and wonder. She loves to explore and make new friends. She is always positive, always smiling and brings joy to all those she encounters. Glonda has a big imagination and an even bigger personality, which helps her create fun wherever she goes. With Glonda, every day is an adventure!
Now a little about myself! I’ve always wanted to write childrens books. Authors such as Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein and Maya Angelou inspired me to create my own literary work. I’ve always been a big fan of rhyming styles and original artwork. My books will include my own original artwork as well. Over the past few years, I have been working on coming up with characters and a solid story line to start my journey as a young author/illustrator. I also wanted to be able to make a difference in my community using my skills and talents. My hope is to reach out to the youth and teach them valuable life lessons through the art of storytelling. I wanted to produce an image that children in the black community could relate to....from skin color to hair texture to everyday life experiences. With that being said, Glonda is an all-around, universal character that all children will relate to and love.
I would like to acknowledge my lovely daughter, Kaydence, who is the inspiration for Glonda. I wanted to create a book about my daughter and our daily adventures, usually shared with our friends and family via Facebook and Instagram. Then one day Kaydence told me and her mom that she would no longer be called Kaydence and her new name was Glonda. It took us a while to adjust to this sudden name change, however, she made sure to remind us every time "Kay…" would begin to slip from our mouths. One day I began working on the main character for the book using Kaydence's likeness. “Look Kaydence, I drew a picture of you for the book, I said. "My name is not Kaydence, it's Glonda!” she replied. That’s when it hit me, “Glonda” would make the perfect name for my character!
With your generous donations, I will be able to bring my character and her stories to life. The donations will fund expenses such as obtaining an ISBN number, publishing, promotional merchandise and legal fees. I hope Glonda will help build self-confidence and inspire children to love who they are....just as they are. We can’t wait to introduce “Glonda” to the world, and she can’t wait to meet all of you!
