HOW CAN YOU GIVE ME A HAND?
In therapy I have been using the Bioness devices, one for my leg and one for my hand. My leg and my arm respond well to the stimulation from the Bioness devices, so I needed to get my own personal devices but my insurance has denied coverage for both devices. I am currently fighting insurance for coverage for the leg device. I chose the leg device because it is more functional than the hand device, or so i thought at that time. It was a strategy decision too. The leg device is cheaper so I am hoping they will consider purchasing just one device, the cheaper device.

But yesterday in therapy it became obvious that I DO need the hand device! I am losing movement in my right hand because we stopped using the hand device in therapy. So I am on a mission to get one!

MY STORY
On August 31,2012, I had a left hemorrhagic stroke. I was 40, the mother of 3, and in the best shape of my life! It was a severe stroke that paralyzed the entire right side of my body. I have been trying to rehabilitate my right arm and right leg ever since. Thankfully, I have gained partial function in my leg! I have partial function in my upper arm with minimal movement in my hand. The doctors warned me that the foot and hand will be the last to come back, if at all.

My doctors are happy with my progress and feel I am an excellent candidate for the Bioness devices due to my age and determination. While I am working very hard, my doctor has told me I will need something experimental if I hope to recover further.

Due to testing, mostly MRIs, we have found out I have a Caveroma that bled. Cavernomas are fairly common. That they bleed and cause a stroke is not. I really would rather have used my one-in-a-million card to win the lottery;). My latest MRI shows the blood has dissappated, no new bleeding, and permanent damage to my motor cortex. That means I am busy recruiting neurons to move my right side. That is where the Bioness comes in! It stimulates movement in my hand, activates neurons. You know I love a party and so do my neurons. The more activation the more new neurons want to help come the party and move my hand!
