Gerald E. Hochreiter
Brockport, NY: Passed away unexpectedly at home with his wife by his side on March 5th, 2015. Born in Buffalo, NY, son of Margaret MacVicar.
Gerald received degrees from Erie Community College, Buffalo State, University of Albany and Syracuse University.
He had an illustrious thirty-three year career in public education, working exclusively in the Vocational field in BOCES statewide. He retired in 2002 as Director of Career and Technical Education for the Monroe 2 - Orleans BOCES. In addition, Gerald served as an adjunct professor, student teacher advisor, consultant and writer. Gerald was passionate about providing vocational opportunities to make high school relevant for students.
His career was marked with innovative programs for high school students, connecting necessary academic skills with demand of employers and the real world. Beyond traditional vocational programs, he built programs and partnerships with the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, Sheriff's Office, area Hospitals, Xerox, Kodak, Bausch and Lomb, Veternary Clinics and scores of other businesses. He worked tirelessly in advocating for high schoolers that needed a different instructional approach and learning environment.
He he made Vocational and Technical Education a priority and solution for many.
To honor Gerald, we'd like to raise funds in his name to establish a scholarship fund. Gerald's career was devoted to building relevant Vocational programs for high school students. These funds will promote students to continue their vocational studies in college and give financial opportunity and support in the same fashion Gerald was supported as he transitioned from high school to college.
