Here we go again! This year the Fantastic Awesome Nerds Club won first place at the Kansas Destination Imagination state competition! We are still the ONLY Destination Imagination team in Topeka, or Shawnee County!. Our team members have moved on to several different middle schools for sixth grade, but have chosen to stick together as the F.A.N. Club with parents’ and friends’ support.
Destination Imagination is an international program for students in grades K-12 that encourages teams to work together to solve challenges that involve creativity, imagination, science, engineering, technology, the arts, mathematics, and community service projects. By participating in these challenges, the team members build personal skills in perseverance, work ethics, respect for others and their ideas, communication skills, critical thinking, and collaborative problem solving. Best of all, they develop new friendships and learn to manage projects from their own imaginations and make them become a reality!
The F.A.N. Club’s first place win in the improvisational challenge, Close Encounters sets us off to Global Finals to represent Kansas, and we need your support! We’ll be going to Knoxville, Tennessee, May 25-28… IF we can raise the funds! Last year's trip made a huge impact on the team members by building their confidence and giving them the chance to interact with thousands of other creative and scientifically minded students. This is an opportunity that cannot happen without help from you!
