Studying Abroad in Tanzania, Africa

I am Evie Reyes; I am a sophmore at College of Lake County and have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to study abroad in Tanzania, East Africa for 16 days with my school. Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about empowering women and children to make a change in this world. It is my dream to be able to volunteer in a different country and make a differnece in someones life.  As a volunteer, I will have a chance to lend a helping hand in a variety of meaningful ways—to empower girls and women through education, work with educators, children and persons with disabilities and provide community health education to reduce stigma and fear. Among the most prevalent issues are the lack of resources, residual effects of a colonial past, and the impact of HIV/AIDS. We will be spending our time in local schools and orpahnages to assist and teach those in need. I would love to be one of the lucky 15 students to attend this trip, however I do not want funding to be what holds me back from this experience.  All funds will go directly towards flight costs, housing, food, local transportation, excursions and a visitors visa.  Any donation will be so greatly appreciated!
