I am volunteering for 3 weeks, starting August 4th, at a primary school close to Cape Town, which caters for around 50 children from ages 5 to 13 who are the poorest of the 800 who attend here. The children come from several African countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Angola and the Congo. Almost 100 of these children come to school daily without food because their parents are too poor to afford it, but we can only accept 50 at this time.
I will have a chance to make an immediate
and tangible difference in the lives of these children by ensuring they receive the food they need to help them make the most of this positive educational environment. Also, I have had an opportunity to help out in the school library. I also will have my keyboard with me to share my gift of Music with these kids who appreciate the opportunity to learn. My most exciting adventure, I believe, will be taking the neediest of these kids to the shoe store to buy new school shoes so that they won't have to squeeze into too small shoes just to have something on their feet.
$15 will buy a pair of shoes. You too can walk in South Africa by proxy.
"These children are hungry to learn, and with your help they will never learn to go hungry."
It is never too late to help.
