After an active tour of duty in Afghanistan I came back a different person, causing stress upon my family life leading to a break-down of relationships and my own mental wellbeing.

I suffered with flashbacks, self-destructive tendencies, depression, homelessness, poverty, suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

I built a cabin high up in the woods, started creating achievable goals, re-engaging my physical abilities, spending time in the great outdoors, enjoying nature and keeping away from any forms of outside negative influences.

During this time, I learnt some very valuable lessons, about life, about myself, humanity and to never give up. Always striving forward to get to the next day, to better myself one small step at a time, to become more improved than I was the day before, get further ahead and continue to move forward in the right direction.

Even though I went through starvation for long periods of time I've came away from 2 years of homelessness with a deep appreciation for the simple things that can often be taken for granted and an understanding of suffering that cant be taught in books.

I found employment, started private mental health treatment, and began to understand myself. I started to make progress, reconnecting with friends and family I previously avoided and isolated myself from. I began to find direction and purpose.

One day, when returning to my cabin from work, I was confronted with the sight of my cabin bulldozed to the floor and all my belongings nowhere to be seen.

Thankfully, friends and family took me in. Despite the support, I still saw the incident as an emotional set-back for me and I lost my personal momentum.

I became unstable, lost my job and I again began to struggle with my mental health, though I stayed strong enough and refused to go backwards.

Thankfully, in January 2019, I was contacted by a local farming family who offered me the opportunity to rebuild on their land, with amazing views and a wide range of animals on site.

Once again, during the building phase I was aware of the improvement in my mental health.

As the cabin grew, so did I - which has given me a clear understanding of the values of having goals.

With the growth in myself and my connections with individuals and businesses, a diverse team of passionate and understanding individuals came together.

A plan was formed with a vision to offer a therapeutic-based support service for veterans with the principles of self-growth, development, worthiness, belief and positive stimulation to achieving goals; surrounded by nature with people willing to listen and understand, to give encouragement and options to better ones-self.

Endex Support Services was born.

So far, we've had well over 2,000 visits to our cabin, including special needs children, adults, bereaved families, veterans, school children, stroke survivors, military widows, people struggling with their mental health, the local community, group hikes, nhs staff and fitness enthusiasts.

Running adjacent to the cabin-build our network has grown substantially, giving us the ability to self fund and supply 48 mental health accredited qualifications to veterans, NHS staff, Charity workers, volunteer staff, bereaved families and families of those who have beloved ones in need of understanding.

Also already 7 spaces on forestry first aid and continuing dry stone walling courses.

Long Term Aims:

To open our drop in centre with an extremely friendly and peaceful atmosphere with lush surroundings whilst providing direct access to councillors, assistance in child access , holistic therapies, social events and fitness opportunities.

We will provide education in mental health, helping individuals to gain a better understanding of self-management, the effects of trauma, the neuroscience of trauma, and enable individuals to feel safe and secure in themselves.

Recognised, cost-effective, qualifications will be offered to individuals which will include: chainsaw, dry stone walling; forestry first aid; first aid; health and safety; food hygiene; fire safety; an induction programme leading to a planned route to employment into industries such as: manufacturing, the care industry, and construction across South Wales.

Also we will continue to provide well being experiences at the self built cabin that has been recently been up graded to Wales's newest castle.
