Volunteer Dental Trip to Vietnam

I am happy to announce that I have been accepted to be 1 of the 3 students selected for the trip! I am leaving for Vietnam on my 26th birthday this year on May 18th, 2014. I am very excited to take part in this enlightening opportunity to change the lives of others and provide dental services to those who have difficulty in accessing healthcare.
I will be providing dental services such as teeth extractions and restorative care to the people of Ho Chi Minh City during most of the trip. Then we will be traveling to a remote village about 4 hours away to provide dental services to a community that does not have access to advanced healthcare. Along with dental services we will be assisting an oral surgeon in performing cleft lip and palate surgeries. The Vietnamese have one of the highest frequencies for babies being born with a cleft lip and/or palate, where 1 and 500 babies are affected (U.S rate is 2.2 to 11.7 per 10,000 births).
Having the chance to share the skills that I have learned thus far in dental school means a great deal to me. This trip will not only provide an unforgettable learning experience, but will also allow me to change the lives of others who are less fortunate. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to travel to a culture very different from my own and be able grasp a new understanding of life and humility from this experience.
This trip's expenses include not only the cost for food, lodging, and travel, but also for supplies and equipment that will be needed to provide services to the Vietnamese. I would be very appreciative for your help financially and for your support through prayer. Any donation would be extremely helpful!
