East HIgh Legacy Scholarship

This building was once the center of education, community and culture for a neighborhood in Xenia , Ohio. It is currently being maintained by the Board of Education but that is sure to change in the coming months and years. We want to save this building , remind everyone what it stands for and make it into a cultural and community center to serve the area and the town. It is important to hold on to heritage.  Help us save this icon and make it vital again for the community. I am Dr. Melva Newsom, I have a committee of 14 people with more joinging frequently. We are the East HIgh Cultural and Community Association.  We have been driven to action partially by the fact that two of our main services here in Xenia , O, the YMCA and the Senior Center are being moved further away from downtown and the section of town this building occupies.  Most of our public senior housing is downtown, about 2.5 blocks from this building , but miles from the new center.  We want to  offer after school activities, classes, meeting space, and other services. Any funds raised will be used to establish non-profit status ( we already have taken the first steps) so that we can obtain grants and loans and then obtain and rehab the building  to begin offering all of the above services and hopefully more. We envision a bodega because it is basically in a place were there is a food desert and a neighborhood clinic. .
