To start a foundation in honor of Deandre Pitts. To inspire our youth that violence is not the answer, and to give them a place to talk through the tough times that life may throw at them.
On February 19, 2021 Deandre N Pitts my one and only son was shot and killed due to a senseless act of violence. In the 19 years of his life Deandre affectionately known as “D” or “Dre” touched many lives whether it was from hearing him sing in the choir or seeing him dominate the basketball court or football field of his high school. To call what happened to Deandre an unfortunate act is an understatement. As you can imagine it gets hard to breathe with the breath that is left in me, I chose to honor my sons life with the creation of Dre Day Foundation. The purpose of Dre Day Foundation is to battle gun violence and senseless killing in our community. Things cannot stay as they are. New dynamic resolving issues must be implemented in our community. The situation is urgent!!! Our children’s lives depend upon it!
