Dawn's Breast Cancer Fight Fund

Beschermde donatie

*** SUMMARY ***

On April 27, 2020 Dawn was diagnosed with stage-2 breast cancer (ductal carcinoma). At 36 her life is about to change dramatically, as she will require a double mastectomy and chemo to overcome this disease. We are hopeful that she will be able to beat this cancer (after all, she has always been stubborn!). We are asking all our friends, family and other loving souls to help us raise funds to support her during this challenging time (go team!).

This Go Fund Me is to reduce the financial burdens for expenses not covered by her health insurance and for day to day expenses while she is unable to work. We estimate that she will be unable to work for approximately 1 year since; she will be immunocompromised as a result of the chemo treatments plus recovery time. As we all know, the world is currently facing a pandemic "Covid-19" therefore, for the length of her treatment it is recommended by her oncology team to stay away from public spaces. We would love to reduce the amount of stress in Dawn’s life so that she can focus all her energy towards recovery and beating this disease. Any amount is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to visit her page; we would be really grateful if you could also share it!

Detailed story and bio below...

Hello and welcome to the GoFundMe page for the vibrant and resilient Dawn Alanna Ederis. This page is created and managed by her loving partner Celiese Miller, her sister, Cindy Ederis, as well as a group of her close and supportive friends, Michael Bendner, Sara Harrison and Paula Kyan.

Dawn’s Journey:

In the beginning of March, 2020 Dawn’s partner found a lump on her left breast, Celiese made an appointment with her gynecologist immediately. After a month of waiting Dawn visited the gynecologist on April 8th. She left with reassuring news that her breasts are fibrocystic and that the lump was more than likely just a cyst. However, due to a history of breast cancer in her family, the gynecologist ordered a sonogram just to be safe. April 15th was sonogram day, things quickly began taking an unexpected turn as the sonogram tech came back with the results stating the radiologist had considered the exam to be indiscernible and wanted to do a mammogram on the very same day for clarity. After the mammogram, Dawn was asked to wait 10-15 minutes as the results of the mammogram would be read and a decision would be made on the spot if she needed further testing or if she was in the clear.  Unfortunately, when the tech came back, she informed Dawn that the test was still inconclusive. It was a mass, which could still be a benign tumor, but it looked irregular. The radiologist wanted her to schedule a biopsy. So, on April the 23rd Dawn went in for the biopsy, her very first medical procedure ever, unfortunately due to COVID-19 Celiese has only been allowed to be present via phone for all of these appointments. We were told that it would take four days for the results of the biopsy to come in. On April 27th Dawn received the news that her biopsy came back positive for Stage 2 Ductal Carcinoma. Due to her age they decided the best plan for treatment is to be very aggressive.

May 1st, they met with Dawn's oncology surgeon, her partner Celiese was allowed to come in for this appointment as oncology teams are aware that things can get pretty overwhelming very quickly from here on out. Dawn was given a plan: get an MRI of both breasts, this will determine if she will need chemo to shrink the mass before undergoing a bilateral mastectomy or if they’ll bring her in for surgery before beginning chemo. Second, give blood for a genetic test, this will determine if she may need a hysterectomy as a preventative measure due to ovarian cancers tendency to occur in some breast cancer patients. Lastly, to schedule an appointment with a Medical Oncology Consultant.

As of today, Dawn and her partner are preparing for their long journey and the battle with Breast Cancer.

So, what is so special about Dawn?

Anyone who has met Dawn knows that she is charismatic, has a great sense of humor, and an outgoing personality. She easily makes friends wherever she goes, and is one of those people you can always rely on.

She will always put other humans and animal needs before her own (her heart is massive!). To paint you a picture, when Dawn was a child growing up in British Columbia, while the rest of her siblings were playing with neighborhood kids, Dawn could be found at an elderly neighbors’ home helping fold laundry and do other household chores. No one knew that was what she was up to, and her parents were quite surprised when they found out, since Dawn never offered to help out at her own home (LOL). It was just in her nature to always want to help others. Dawn has always been fond of animals and has rescued countless stray dogs and cats in her lifetime. There are just too many to name, but those furry friends know who they are.

Dawn loves trying new foods from all different ethnicities and happens to be an amazing cook. Some would say she has a refined palate, and we often question why she is not a professional chef! She has always loved the outdoors and is extremely active so you could then and still now, expect to find Dawn planning her next day in the sun and night under the stars. She enjoys it all, riding motorcycles to rock climbing, camping, hiking, you name it, Dawn's up for it. All her time spent outdoors has led to Dawn having a profound appreciation for nature and all life.

She has recently settled in Texas where she works for the Veterans Affairs, serving those who served us. In the last couple of years, she has been placing roots in the US, having met her beloved “Babywife” and a few good friends, she is just beginning to take advantage of all that life has to offer. She has also started to pursue her options for secondary education, originally planning to attend UTSA to pursue her bachelor degree.

Dawn has so much life to live and so much to offer the world! While those who know her, know that she’s strong enough and feisty enough to beat cancer, we ask for your support to help her with the financial side of this battle. We are estimating that Dawn will be taking a minimum of 8 months off of work, this includes recovery time from the bilateral mastectomy as well as 6 months of chemo therapy.

If you’re able to help with a monetary contribution of any size, we will greatly appreciate it. Small donations add up and anything will help in her time of need. Also please find it in your heart to take a moment of your time and share this page wide and far as the more people able to donate the more Dawn can focus on her battle against cancer and not have to worry about the financial stress from all of these medical procedures. Plus the worry of being off from work.

Thank you, your support is appreciated!
