Some background
As many of you know, my wife and I have dedicated our lives to working with children. I have been working with kids for over 25 years, just as Heather has been serving the needs of children since she was just 12 herself.
One of our greatest hopes as a married couple has been to be the best parents that we can. With our great love for children, we see one of the greatest responsibilities a person can accept is the care for someone else's life. Parents do this everyday.
It has been a long journey for us through dealing with the challenges of medical problems with conceiving a child naturally to navigating the maze of adoption. As you can imagine the emotional roller coaster has many up's and down's.
Through it all, we have supported each other and trusted God for his best. Our friends and family have been very supportive and the prayers of those who are believing with us have been felt.
Today
On Monday (June 24) we were contacted about a potential opportunity to adopt a baby that is due in the 3 weeks! The birth mother had originally planned on raising the little boy as a single mom, but over the weekend didn't feel like she could give the care the baby would need.
The Assemblies of God Family Services, where the birth mom is staying, found that Heather and I are the only couple in their list of applicants that fit the profile for what mom wants and what the baby may need. We are the only couple they are talking to due to some of the risks associated with this pregnancy. We decided to walk in faith that God will take care of our needs and give us a healthy and whole baby.
The challenge we face is the time frame. Typically, adoptive couples wait 2-5 years before being selected. We just finished our application and adoption home study about 5 months ago. So we are short of the needed funds to complete the adoption process.
As it stands right now, the adoption fees, attorney fees, and court costs will be in the $12,000 range. Additionally, we will be responsible for the baby's medical bills at birth...so, our need is great! But so is our God!
We are asking our friends and family to help us complete this miracle. We know that God will provide!
