Burkina Faso Child Health Project
Donation protected
Sara Rendell is a Fulbright Scholar living in Burkina Faso interviewing women to find ways to overcome barriers to their health and the health of their children. Each year, over 2,000 women lose their lives unnecessarily in Burkina Faso due to pregnancy complications. Today, 5 of every 100 children born in Burkina Faso will lose their lives before their fifth birthday. (UNFPA, WHO)

As many of you know, I have been interviewing women in Burkina Faso for almost eight months now. At the end of interviews, women often ask questions. There was one question women asked more than others, "What can I do so my baby grows up healthy and lives to go to school?"
To date, more than 80 women asked me this question. Today, 5 of every 100 children born in Burkina Faso will lose their lives before their fifth birthday (UNFPA). Among the leading causes of death for children under five living in Burkina Faso are malaria, pneumonia, and diahhreal disease. An awareness of warning signs and development of good hygiene practices could prevent many of these deaths. We have created a picture book in Moore and French that illustrates 15 things that healthy kids do.
Our goal is to raise $5000 to be able to give a copy of the book to 400 women living in Ouagadougou and surrounding villages. Please give $10, $20, $50, or whatever your budget allows. A donation of $25 will give two women a copy of the photo book.
Thank you for your contribution! Thank you for helping us answer the question, "What can I do so my baby grows up healthy and lives to go to school?" We need your help to print copies of this book to give to Burkinabé women.
