Medical Mission to South Africa

Donation protected
Hallo, Sawubona, Hello!

Twenty years into South Africa's democracy, public health issues remain a challenge in epic proportions. While the public health system serves a large part of the country, it is grossly underfunded and under constant strain. South Africa's health care system is a two-tiered system where in vast numbers of communities, people have no access to healthcare. Cultural views on health and varying levels of wealth and education influence access to and acceptance of public health services.

I would like to take a few moments to tell you about the upcoming medical clinic that I have been invited to participate in; I will be working alongside other qualified volunteers and medical professionals to provide health care in some of the most impoverished regions of South Africa. We are confident that we will be able to help more people than ever, but we need financial assistance to help the trip be successful.

Our team will be working with many patients varying from refugees, to tribal communities, to rural areas without access to health care. Nearly everyone who lives in these areas is poor, and some live in abject poverty. Children sometimes come to clinic as the head of their household because their parents may have passed away or are otherwise ill. Healthcare is a main concern and the communities our team will be visiting are certainly part of the challenges faced by this country.

The majority of the cases we will witness are treatable; we will bring medicines and medical supplies to help these people and save lives. The information we provide to both the patient and the local health care community will be invaluable to them long after we leave. We will be providing humanitarian outreach to the physical needs of these people and also give them hope through community health classes, caring, sharing, and showing them our compassion. While one week is too little time to treat all the sick, it is nevertheless ample time to plant the seeds of hope in their lives for a promising future.

I invite you to take part with our medical team through financial giving, encouragement, and support. Each team member will need to provide donations to cover our personal expenses. If, after thoughtful consideration, you feel led to support us financially, please make a donation to this campaign. $4750 will cover medicine, supplies, $1750 go towards a portion of travel expenses, and any remaining amount will be donated to International Medical Relief to provide aid for future trips in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Dankie, Ngiyabonga, and Thank you!
