Help Bring Our Elsa Home From Ethiopia!

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to check out my page. My name is Donald Sorenson, and my wife Lisa and I are in the final stages of adopting a beautiful little girl from Ethiopia. We are not allowed to use her name or photo until we officially adopt her, so we have to call her 'little E' until our dream is fulfilled. Please read on to discover how I am coming to complete strangers today with a plea for help in our cause.

We have been working on the adoption since August of last year when we both felt the need to add to our family. We currently have 3 beautiful daughters, but felt the need to add another child to our family. Once we decided to do that via adoption, we wanted to make the biggest difference in a child's life. We wanted to adopt a child who may be looked over because they were a bit older. In a world where most people want to adopt a baby to raise from birth as their own, we wanted to take a child who had nothing, and give them everything.

Let me tell you a little bit about little E. She is the youngest of 3 children, and from what we have been told is a sweet little girl who is eager to please. After her father died in a fall at work her mother could no longer care for all of her siblings. She made what has to be the hardest choice any mother would have to make; she decided to give her youngest daughter up for adoption. At first she tried to find family members who would help raise little E, but they all had their own families to take care of and had no help to offer. She had no other choice but to turn over her youngest daughter, who was 5 at the time to the orphanage.

Little E is now 6 years old, and has been at the orphanage for over a year. We should be traveling for our court date sometime in late July of this year. At first glance at airline tickets a few months back, a flight from the US to Addis Abada, Ethiopia was around 1400-1800 dollars. It seemed like a steep price, but we knew we could make it work. When we got word that first travel would happen in late July, we checked prices again. What we saw made our jaws drop. An average ticket now is between 2200-2500 dollars! We have already sunk almost 25,000 dollars into this adoption and have drained our savings account as well as having to use a credit card for some of the cost. And then to find out that tickets to fly there (We have to go twice. Once for court, another time to actually bring her home.) have gone up around 1000 dollars a piece felt like a kick in the gut!

On top of this our youngest daughter has medical issues that we have to deal with, and the extra stress from the cost of airline tickets is starting to weigh on us.

Let me say this...with our without help we will make this work. I believe that we were meant to adopt this little girl, and using my life savings to pay for it will be worth it in the long run. I would do anything for my children, and I know most parents would as well. We will slowly pay off our debts and be back to where we were last year financially, but until then, any little bit we can get helps.
