Braving the Shave: For you, Mom

Donation protected
My name is Katie Smoak, and on August 19th, 2010, my mom and best friend was diagnosed with Stage IV NETs [neuroendocrine tumors] in her liver. The prognosis was not good, and odds were not in her favor, but we knew she would fight harder than most. After 5 months of chemotherapy, diet therapy, and alternative medicine, the cancer had shrunk by more than 50%. Later on, 2 liver transplants further assured us that we had stopped the cancer and begun the path to victory.

But on April 27th, 2012, an MRI showed that the cancer had not only spread, but had formed a tumor in her brain. Attempts to control the cancer included 2 brain surgeries and radiation, but the cancer had spread into her spinal cord. And on August 29th, 2012, I lost my mom, my biggest supporter, and my best friend to cancer.

Now, it's my turn to join the fight. My mom's biggest dream was that her sickness would help other people's battles end in victory. I am fighting to raise $5000 for the National Brain Tumor Society, and if reach my goal in time, I am shaving my head in memory of my mom. Please consider joining me on my journey of healing, of finding strength, and making my best friend's dream come true.
