Send Andrea to Boston University

Donation protected

I am putting this page together on behalf of Andrea's teachers. We work with Andrea at KIPP: Generations Collegiate, a charter school which serves low-income minorities.

Andrea is a student who scored a 1260 the first time she ever took the PSAT, scores 30's on her ACT tests, and made a 100 on her STAAR benchmark. I had the privilege of working with Andrea as her teacher for Pre-Advanced Placement English II for her sophomore year. Based on my experience with Andrea, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that she is one of the most hard working and persistent students with whom I have had the opportunity to work.

She has JUST gotten into a high school honors program at Boston University in which she will have the chance to earn 8 college credit hours and spend 6 weeks taking classes with students that are just as driven as she is. My biggest fear as her teacher is that she will not have access to this opportunity that would truly push her and give her the chance to be surrounded by those who want to be pushed as well. I notice how much more advanced she is than those around her and I fear that she will lose this motivation if she is not shown that she deserves every single opportunity to thrive. She doesn't come from a zipcode where she is expected to attend Boston University, but she made it and she deserves it.

While she believes this amount is not possible, therefore making this opportunity not possible, we are determined to help her get there.

The $10,000 covers the following:

Application Fee: $50
Tuition: $660 per credit
Service Fees: $530
"Additional Fees" such as lab fees: $200
Room and Board (including meal plan with 19 meals per week: $2,718
Flight: $590
Suggested spending money (although she said she didn't need any): $50-150 per week

The total (without spending money) is $9,368.  I'd love to be able to send her with money since she will be living in Boston for 6 weeks; an experience she never imagined she would have.

Classes begin July 2nd.
Money will be withdrawn by teacher at KIPP: Generations Collegiate, Jason Kirkwood. He will write a check for the full amount, which will be given to Andrea and her family so they can deposit it and book her flight as soon as possible and claim her spot. This is the best way to ensure she has access to the funds.

Anything would be appreciated!
