Holiday Meals - Oxford County

Connecting families together in Oxford County! Mission Statement: To provide heartfelt, holiday, homecooked, quality meals to families who need it the most. Studies show, that in 2018 approximately 4,270 Oxford County residents lived on an income too low to cover their basic needs. Just over three percent of Oxford County residents are considered working poor, which means their annual income is not enough to cover just their basic living needs, let alone anything extra or special requirements, despite being employed. An individual living alone is considering working poor on an income based at $3,001 - $22,133. Did you know that a family of four requires an average of $67,176.35 annual to meet their basic needs? That number does not include any extra provisions regarded as important by the family such as education, or retirement savings, in which the yearly costs of living continually increases. Income is considered the most important determinants of health and overall living conditions including housing, food security, and social environments. Sited from swpublichealth.ca. Our Vision: is to reach out to less fortunate families and provide them with a heartfelt, holiday, homecooked meal, that they had the delight in preparing for their families, when they may have not had the opportunity to do so otherwise. What started off as a small facebook post wanting to give away a free turkey meal to someone less fortunate, turned out to be something so much more. In a very short time, we managed to raise enough to help ten families in need, with the gracious assistance of our local grocery store. In order assist many more this upcoming Thanksgiving, Stacey Hanlon and I (Carla VanderVecht) are reaching out to the community to request your assistance. We are currently seeking small monetary donations to provide a meal to the families and the ability to pick up the meal items at our local Independent Grocers. In order to assist us, we will also be accepting nominations for families in need of this small, but mighty spirit lifter over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
