Begin again, after death of my wife
Donación protegida
Hello everyone, this is Mark Tiffany. We may have done business in the past while I was a Commercial Real Estate mortgage banker, or you may know me from my last 5+ years as an ADT Home Security Consultant and Manager. Or you may just know me personally.
Well, I'm sorry to say that 2015 has turned out to be a sad and tragic year for our family. My wife of nearly 28 years, passed away on April 25th of this year. This was not expected. She was but 58 years old.
Needless to say, these past 12 weeks have been difficult for Caitlin and Connor, our two , now adult, children, and myself. A person never really can imagine what something like this does to them, until it actually occurs. So, because of this, it is something that we had not planned for, financially. Sometimes 20/20 hindsight can be an awfully harsh teacher.
I am placing this request for help out on the internet because I have found myself in a short term bind, cash wise. Some of the contributing factors were/are:
1) Paying for the necessary costs incurred when a loved one dies. Unfortunately Melodye had no life insurance.
2) Temporary loss of income (I am 100% commission paid).
3) Upon returning from visiting with Melodye's family in Reno, there was a 3-day notice taped to my front door.
4 ) I tried to pay the rent after that, however, the manager would not accept it, stating that they would proceed with the having me out. To explain; The rent I pay is about $900 below market and I'm on M-T-M.
5) Two days later I was notified in writing by someone at my front door.
6) This meant I was forced to pay all costs of $2,000, plus rent owed.
7) I was to have moved and vacated the premises by midnight July, 15th. That date has come and gone because I'm so tapped out, I could not pay to hire the movers.
8) And finally, a week ago my car starts acting up, pretty badly, smoking and going through two quarts of oil a day - the mechanic says my rings are shot and I need a new engine, sooner than later.
Except for the loss of my wife, and our kids Mom, all of these things are one time and temporary events, however, my predicament is that I am currently tapped out, and I do not have time to "earn my way out" of this very difficult situation.
My landlord has threatened me with having the Sheriff's Department remove me physically from the apartment tomorrow and lock up all my property. At some point very soon, my vehicle will stop running. I owe some back rent which may be mostly offset by my deposit, however there is a 30 day lag between paying the rent and getting the deposit back. So the deposit will not help me in this short term need.
Once moved and out (I have already rented and paid for a storage unit to move property into), then I'll have to find a new place, but I'm only planning on renting a room for now, so that should be a fairly low cost.
On the positive side, as indicated, my commissioned income has started to return to normal numbers.
And finally, here is the breakdown of my immediate needs:
1) Cost to move all property from my residence into my storage unit - $1,100
2) cost to vacate current residence (Moneys owed to landlord incl the $2,000 for their atty) - $2,900
3) cost to repair my car - Used engine $1,840 + $2,000 labor, totaling $3,840
4) Finally, the cost to place a deposit on, and rent a room locally - $1,200
My total need = $9,040
I also pledge that I will repay every penny of the money raised here. I don't know how long it will take, but I will pay it back. I'm nearly debt free today, and I would like to keep it that way.
In closing, I thank anyone and everyone, in advance, whether you make a contribution, or even just read my story, but cannot afford to contribute anything.
What little I do have, I am very grateful for, and I'm so very grateful for all the support everyone who has been around me these past 3 months, has shown me. You don't know how helpful it is just knowing people out there are ready and willing to help out.
Again, Thanks, Mark Tiffany
