Afghan Resettlement Volunteers

My name is Major Chris Liggett, and I am organizing volunteer efforts to support Afghan refugees as they start a new life in the Boulder and Denver areas. I personally helped two of my friends and their families (14 people in all) to escape through the Kabul Airport as they fled from the Taliban, and now we are working to give them a solid start as we welcome them to the United States. Matiullah and his children experienced horrific violence at the hands of the Taliban as they fled their home in the middle of the night. They braved streets filled with tear gas and thousands of families crushing against the airport gates as they attempted to flee. Luckily, on the same day as the explosion that killed 13 American's at Abbey gate, Mat and his family were able to rush to a secret gate where they were rescued by special operatives. They will be coming to live near me in Boulder, and we can't wait to have them!

While we coordinate volunteer efforts, plan with the Boulder City Council, and integrate with Colorado State Refugee Operations, we would also like to start raising money to support this family when they arrive. This money will be used to provide clothing, food, and comfort items, it will go toward transportation and housing costs, it will be used to pay for child care and English language classes...the sky is the limit. It will also help me to provide for Matiullah's family as they resettle here in Boulder and start their new life!
