WHAT IS ANAKBAYAN SEATTLE
ANAKBAYAN (“Sons and Daughters of the People”) is a comprehensive national
democratic youth and student organization. We uphold the interests and demands of
the Filipino youth and the people by educating, organizing, and mobilizing
them to fight for education, employment, land, democratic rights, and social
services for Filipinos here in the U.S. and the Philippines.

PHILIPPINES EXPOSURE TRIP
As youth organizers, it is important to revitalize our roots and remember the struggle of our families, kasamas, and community. The purpose of expo is to integrate with different communities (womyn, queer folks, youth, students, farmer/peasants, cultural and migrant workers, church workers, indigenous people, teachers, urban poor, allies etc.). We will work as allies in solidarity to understand the true conditions, struggle, and movement of kasamas in the Philippines. Honoring our objectives, we will learn our histories and conditions of the masses from the masses, in order to serve the people.

TYPHOON RELIEF AND REHABILITATION
We'll be working with BAYAN Philippines (Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or New Patriotic Alliance) a multi-sectoral organizations struggling for national and social liberation against imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism, Kabit Bisig Kabataan Network (Youth Link Arms) a national Filipino American youth and student led relief network built in response to Typhoon Haiyan and future disasters, and Anakbayan USA to assist with the impacts of Typhoon Haiyan in the most affected areas of the Philippines. We will be integrating with all those typhoon and disaster impacted communities in order to support grassroots relief work.

WHEN: Mid July-August

EXPOSURISTS
Enrico Abadesco:
I am currently the Vice Chair of Anakbayan Seattle. I am a kultural worker whose art reflects my own experiences as well as the struggles of the masses. My weapon of choice is my pen, which forges poetry and music.

Richard Arcelo: A member of Anakbayan Seattle since 2009 - I am currently AB Seattle's Cultural Chair. Culture plays an important role in helping others understand the work that we do. Our everyday challenges are, in some way, connected with one another and I believe through cultural work we can truly begin to analyze those connections.

Charisse Bersamina: I am currently Anakbayan Seattle's finance officer. I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington, I enjoy kite flying and browsing Buzzfeed articles. I identify with being a cultural worker, queer, womyn, musician, and as a child of immigrants.

Nikki Caintic: I am a Community Organizer w/ Anakbayan Seattle (currently serving as the Secretary General) and a 2012 University of Washington graduate. My father is originally from Visayas and my mother is from Luzon.

We are excited to start this journey to self reflection, relief, and rehabilitation with you all. Please consider donating, but as a collective we understand that times are tough, especially as youth and students. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page to your friends, families, and community. Please follow our exposure updates and adventures on our Tumblr!!! Please help us in truly serving the people! Maraming, maraming salamat po!
