Our names are Valerie Simpson and Roxanne McCormick and we are raising money for our dear friends Bill and Lisa Sheridan. Here is a very condensed version of their story.
5 years ago, Bill suffered from Fournier’s Gangrene which led to 10 surgeries and months long rehab and ultimately forced him to medically retire at less than half his salary and he did not have enough service time to carry insurance.
Since then he has gone blind and had 10 eye surgeries due to retinopathy from Type 2 diabetes. Also he is in early stages of kidney failure from the prolonged treatment from the Fournier’s, but it saved his life.
Bill’s mobility started declining and led to use of a wheelchair for more than a few steps.
In February of this year he had an autoimmune attack which led to a week in ICU on a vent.
In May he had rehabilitated enough to walk. In the past two weeks he started losing feeling in his feet, legs, hands, and arms. He was taken to the ER by ambulance in Ruston and was told he had a touch of pneumonia and sent home.
This last Wednesday we were able to get him to the ER at Oschners-LSU in Shreveport where he has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome which is a rare autoimmune disease. He is currently receiving IVIG treatment in hospital.
He will have a long term rehab where he learn to walk and regain motor skills.
He has been turned down repeatedly by Medicaid and cannot receive social security (not enough quarters) and insurance is too costly.
Needless to say, medical bills are piling up and Lisa’s income is all they have. They have even started food deliveries to try to make ends meet. Anything you can give will help them survive! May God Bless you richly for your gifts!
