Sheltie Friend Needs Help

This GoFundMe campaign is in support of a friend in the dog community that needs our help. Jill Hamilton of Gardiner NY is not a current dog breeder, but in the past raised and showed top quality Shetland Sheepdogs. She currently has 5 dogs, including 12 year old MACH Finn and her Masters level dog, Bart. Three are just pets including Helen, who was born with special needs in 2012.
Jill was in need of help for some basic home repairs and didn't know who to turn to. She currently needs a well pump, trash removal, and other general repairs.
Then, last Friday, the Ulster County SPCA was looking for a "bad breeder" to villify and use as their poster child for a campaign against all dog breeders. With that agenda in mind, they targeted someone needing help and used it against her, charging her with animal cruelty because of her home repair and housekeeping issues. The dogs have been taken to a shelter.
Her 5 happy, healthy, well fed and cared for dogs were not in need of any protection or legislation, but now Jill needs legal help as well to fight for her beloved dogs. Jill always put the welfare of her dogs above herself. Her dogs have always eaten a top quality diet, received vet care as needed and are up to date on vaccines.
Many people in the Sheltie community, dog agility friends, and others have asked how they can help. Much help is needed -- and every little bit will count. Some of us with "boots on the ground" are helping in the home cleanup and with moral support. Others have offered to foster the dogs if they can be released from the shelter. If you can donate some funds to assist with the legal defense or home repairs, that money will be much appreciated. We are using a GoFundMe campaign to make it easy for you to donate.
We have an attorney that is ready and willing to help. His retainer fee is $5000 which will cover the first 20 hours of work. Home cleanup and repairs are estimated to be another $5000. There will be additional expenses for impoundment fees to the shelter.
As we have seen over the past several years, public opinion has turned against dog breeders good and bad; rich and poor; hobby, commercial, and backyard. If we allow the most vulnerable members of our community to be targeted and persecuted to advance the agenda of the animal activists and anti-breeder terrorists, we only strengthen their ability to attack the rest of us next.
