Help Araceli After Oaxaca Quake

Donation protected
A close friend of mine from Mexico who has close ties to our communities in Des Moines and Iowa City, Iowa needs help rebuilding her family's neighborhood after an earthquake devastated the village of Ixtaltepec in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Araceli Benitez Moya has close ties to Des Moines and Iowa City. She recently spent three months in Iowa, volunteering at the Catholic Worker houses of hospitality, working as a migrant farm laborer, taking English classes, and sightseeing.

The devestation is extensive. One out of every three houses in Ixtaltepec are rubble. For the next few months, Araceli will be concentrating her efforts in helping rebuild the houses of her family and neighbors.
Her priorities are threefold: 1) Attend immediate concerns of food and medicine (both pharmacies of Ixtaltepec were destroyed.) 2) short term- fixing electrical, replacing dishes, some furniture, etc. 3) rebuilding the four houses on the street of Araceli's parents- currently all four families are staying with Araceli's folks, i.e. five families in one household.

Araceli and her family desperately need our help. Please find it in your hearts to help out anyway you can. Even $5 goes a long way in Mexico.  All funds will go directly to Araceli for this rebuilding project. I deposit them directly into her bank account after I receive them.
