Medical Volunteering in Zambia
Donation protected
For six weeks this summer I will be volunteering in a clinic in southern Zambia where I will serve in any way they need... triaging patients, taking vitals, educating, and just adding a set of much needed hands to assist the overburdoned staff. Please join me!!! Your donations will allow me to lend this valuable support and anything above the goal will be donated directly to the clinic.
Additionally, if you're local (to me in Boston) please consider donating any extra medical equipment as I will be packing a suitcase of things to donate. Here's a wish list created by a previous volunteer:
- stethoscopes
- BP cuffs
- thermometers
- refrigerator thermometers
- alcohol swabs
- medical gloves (sterile and non-sterile)
- tourniquets
- gauze (sterile and non-sterile)
- tape
- forceps
- scissors
- needle holders
- kidney basins
- isolation gowns
- cotton swabs
- absorbable sutures
- isolation masks (with shield and no shield)
Words from a former volunteer:
"The whole facility had two stethoscopes and two thermometers that were shared among all the departments. There was definitely a shortage/lack of…. everything - from medical supplies to medicine to staff. I have no clue how the place runs, but it does."
