Help Rafi's family

Hello friends,

I am calling you for empathy and compassion. A few weeks ago, the tragedy that struck some good friends of ours, reminded us that it is a privilege to live wealthy in a free country. But this is not the case for everyone.

Starting in 2012, Serge, my husband, developed a program to improve mutual understanding and collaboration between the Afghan people and NATO personnel. It was about bringing the two cultures together through guided online dialogues. To do so, he needed a trusted partner in Afghanistan. Ahmad Rafi Nadiri was highly recommended to him for the job. This young, talented and dynamic lawyer was specializing in the defense of women and minorities against unfair treatment and trials by the Talibans. He immediately embraced the cause of bringing his country out of darkness hand in hand with their NATO allies. Over 8 year, Rafi, as we call him, organized a nation-wide network of Afghan people of all walks of life willing to exchange and collaborate with westerners on a weekly basis. Over those eight years of efforts and dedication, Rafi became a good friend. But this came at a cost. For years he has been receiving death threats. On of his colleagues even got murdered by the Talibans. For many years he lived in fear for the life of his wife and their two young daughters.

Until last August when the Talibans took over the country.

There was no chance that he would survive the new regime. Forced marriage was the fate of his daughters. So they had to flee. Making their way into the Kabul airport was already a life-risking challenge. But they made it.

Today, they are safe in Belgium, but have lost everything.

Two weeks ago I visited them, and got shocked by the poor conditions they have to live in.

They have been provided a precarious housing, one very small meal per day, and 350 euros per month. This is unfortunately not enough to keep a family of four alive!

They need food, cloths, blankets, soap, towels, … everything.

So I am raising money to support them, and hope you could help me with some donation. All of it will go directly to them.
