Hello Everyone!
A lot of exciting news to report! This Fall, I will be heading to Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs to start my Master's degree in Urban and Social Policy here in NYC. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity, and am looking forward to making the most of it.
The reason for this fundraiser, however, is prompted by another exciting opportunity in front of me: Texas hero, progressive powerhouse, and overall badass Wendy Davis is running for Governor of the Lone Star State and I have an opportunity to intern with the campaign this Summer.
As many of you know, it is my lifelong goal to help progressive politics in Texas take root. In Wendy Davis, Texas has a chance to shake up the good ol' boys network of conservative blowhards and help Texas take a huge step forward in declaring Texas a true battleground state.
Indeed, working on this campaign will not only allow me to further pursue my passion, but it will also provide me with the connections/relationships I desperately need to build in order to return to Texas one day and work in progressive politics.
The campaign is providing me with housing and travel reimbursement, but as they only have 1/3 the amount of funds that the opposition has, they are unable to provide me with a stipend.
I write to you today to help make this dream possible. As I'm starting grad school in the Fall (and, yeah, Columbia is as expensive as you'd imagine) and won't have a steady income, I'm unable to take this opportunity without some support from family and friends. I have a new laptop to buy, NYC rent to consider this Fall, books, etc.
So if you're willing and able, I'd sure appreciate some help! I'll even do my best to get Wendy to sign a thank-you card. (No promises, but I think I can charm her.)
