Please Help Lucy & Poppy Travel To The UK

Hi, my name is Debbie Davies and I am fundraising on behalf of a wonderful rescue called Desperate Dogs of Azerbaijan.

The rescue was founded by my dear friend, Rosie Turner, who is a Canadian citizen, living and working in Azerbaijan.

When Rosie first moved to Azerbaijan five years ago she was horrified by the way dogs and cats are treated and could not just turn away.

There is a policy of removing stray animals from the streets and the methods used are far from humane.

Rosie started to rescue these poor souls and we currently care for 180 dogs and 28 cats at our main shelter on the outskirts of Baku.

We have a further 150 dogs in other secure locations.

Rosie cares deeply for each and every one of our animals but we are totally reliant on donations from our wonderful supporters to cover rent, food, vet bills etc. Sadly, it is an ongoing struggle.

We cannot bring many animals to the UK because travel logistics are difficult and expensive therefore when our dogs and cats receive offers of adoption, we do not want them to miss their chance.

Two of our gorgeous dogs, Poppy and Lucy were saved by Rosie last year when she managed to snatch them from the back of a lorry which was taking them to their death.

Poppy and Lucy have since been living in our shelter but they have now received offers of adoption from a lovely family in the UK.

Lucy is very timid whereas Poppy is more outgoing but the girls are very bonded so we needed them to stay together.

Their golden tickets have now been provisionally reserved for them to leave Azerbaijan on 28th August as long as funds can be raised.

It costs around £1,500 per animal for preparation and travel and their adopters have donated generously but we still have a shortfall of £400 per dog.

Every penny counts towards ensuring these two beautiful girls do not miss their chance of happiness.
