Empowering women through education

Donation protected
An estimated 12.3 million people are trafficked worldwide. 80% are women. 60% are children. 35% of Cambodia's sex workers are under the age of 16. In Cambodia specifically some of these children are as young as 5 years old. (UNICEF)

This is something that we can no longer allow to happen to women and to children. It's time to take action.

In October I will be traveling to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to work with a foundation called the Justice and Soul Foundation. The Justice and Soul Foundation is a nationwide collection of hairdressers and other beauty industry professionals who will be assisting in the rehabilitation and prevention of sexual exploitation around the world.

I have been chosen to travel at my own expense to join this collection of professionals to assist and transform the lives of trafficked young women into confident, self-sufficient and financially independent individuals. I will be dedicating a month of volunteering to them as an Educator and Stylist at the salon and academy. I will be teaching styling techniques, customer relations, and self-empowerment to these women who have faced unimaginable mistreatment in their past. We will educate these women and give them a profession and a means to provide for themselves and their family other than selling their bodies.
Many of these women end up returning to trafficking because the social stigmas surrounding these victims make it difficult for them to find gainful employment. These women are victims and we will do everything within our power to lift them out of poverty and give them the tools they need to find success in life.

As Transitions Global has stated, "Freedom without a future is another form of slavery; without viable and sustainable career and life skills, a girl rescued from trafficking has few opportunities and little direction. But with these needs addressed she has a restored sense of dignity and a foundation on which to believe in herself and to pursue her dreams."

Through our collective passion and expertise in the beauty industry, we are teaching, inspiring and building esteem in those who have been enslaved in trafficking. This program will offer women opportunities to heal from the past and acquire life, social, and career skills that prepare them to function as healthy, independent adults.

Please support me in my quest to help women who have never had the same opportunities we have here in America. If I can positively effect change in these women then it’s a start. We still have a long way to go in the war against sex trafficking, but the battle starts here. With your help I will be on the front lines breaking this vicious cycle.

Thank you so much for your consideration and feel free to track our journey, either through facebook or through our blog - Cambodia - Breaking the Cycle. Be sure to bookmark the blog so you can see first hand, through my eyes, how important your donation will be to this cause.
