HELP CAMBODIAN KIDS GET SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Donation protected
My name is Steve Vibol Meng. I was born in Cambodia in the province called, "Takeo". I lived through the Khmer Rouge genocide from 1975-1979. I fled the country with my mother, grandmother and siblings to the neighboring country of Thailand. We lived in the refugee camp called, "Khao I Dang" for 10 long years. I haven't been back to my motherland since 2002. In 2002, I was able to help the poor children in my village by donating school supplies, uniforms and backpacks.
It's been 12 long years since I last stepped foot in my country. In July 2014, I will return to Cambodia. This time I would like to be able to make a bigger contribution and that's where I need your help. I need to raise money to buy school supplies for the poor children in my village so they can get an education and have a better life. The educational system in Cambodia is lacking in many areas. The school has no books, library, no electricity and no running water. The building that is used as a classroom is very run down; during the rainy season water leaks through the palm frond roof onto the dirt floor. Despite these conditions the children are eager to learn, but... in order to do so they need supplies: uniforms, books, notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks, etc.
My ultimate goal is to raise enough money to build a library in the village and dedicate it to my late father who was killed during the genocide.
Picture # 1 shows me at the age of 19 in the Khao I Dang refugee camp in Thailand.
Picture # 2 is me today as a successful businessman and community activist and leader.
Picture # 3 shows an example of the type of Cambodian children you will be helping to get an education through your generosity.
In closing I would like to say “Thank You” in advance for your contributions towards making Cambodia and the world at large a better place.
Sincerely,
Steve Vibol Meng
