More Story Time in Special Needs Pre-K

I'm the single parent farther of a funny, sweet, loving special needs boy, Rhys. Rhys is in a full day developmentally delayed Pre-K class. His biggest difficulty is his expressive and receptive language delay due to auditory processing issues. At 4.5 years old the bulk of his language and comprehension is equal to a child that is 2.9 years old. I received an email from the school saying that due to large budget cuts, there aren't enough books in his classroom. This news quite naturally hurt my heart. If there is one place besides a library that should be filled to the brim with books, it's a special needs classroom! Story time is a vital part of the daily routine. His awesome teacher Mrs. S reads the stories of the week multiple times per week b/c it helps improve: speech and language development and language comprehension. The movement as she acts out the story helps develop their gross and fine motor skills. Story time also helps strengthen other skills like attention span and following multi-step directions. Mrs. S is excellent and she makes the stories memorable and fun for Rhys and his classmates. The donations will be used by his teacher to purchase books and some support materials. Support materials can include videos, access to paid website content, audio CDs, and props/supplies to bring the story to life. I am a parent fundraising on the class' behalf. All the donated funds will be given directly to Mrs. S. I know Rhys and his classmates would be so excited and appreciative. Your donations will help Rhys' class right now and classes next year too.
