Legal Fund for Phillip Charleston
Hello everyone,
I am creating this go fund me on behalf of my uncle Phillip Charleston to raise funds for his legal fees. Phillip is seeking a sentence reduction/immediate release granted under the first step act. A lawyer has agreed to take on his case and believes strongly that he could produce a desirable outcome. Phillip has served over 20 years of a 47 year federal prison sentence. He was sentenced at 17 years old at double the normal sentencing rate due to the lack of adequate representation and legal knowledge. To make matters worse, Phillip struggled with dyslexia affecting his reading and comprehension abilities which created an overall lack of understanding of legal proceedings. Since his incarceration he completed a GED program, certification in paralegal studies, became a strong writer and avid reader. Myself and others close to him have witnessed his personal growth, change in mindset and willings to help others. A successful trial means that he will be able to accomplish his goals to be an advocate for other wrongfully convicted individuals. Your support will give Phillip a second chance at life to share his passions, skills and lived experience to make a positive impact on society. Any donation no matter big or small would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to hear his story.
Sincerely,
Jontá Gardner
