Angel’s Gender Affirming Surgery
Donation protected
My name is Angel and I am a 31 year old trans woman. After years of depression and hiding myself from the world, I’ve eventually got the courage to embrace and accept myself for who I am. However, I need my community’s assistance in helping me complete my journey.
In the UK, the NHS has only one GIC service for trans people which currently has a wait of 5 years to be seen for assessment and treatment. Due to my age and my hormones settling into my body, I am unable to wait to start living my life at 36 years of age. As such I am having to go down the private healthcare route, which I have already spent hundreds (almost thousands) of pounds to see the help I need.
I’m thankful that I am about to start my hormone replacement therapy in the new year. Although this is great news, I’m still a long way from finally seeing myself in the mirror.
Gender affirming surgery is different for every trans person, and a very common misconception of this that it is simply cosmetic. These surgeries are almost always not only affirming but life saving as the world doesn’t accept us with a kind heart in the same way as those close to us might. For the world to see us as the gender we see ourselves as, these surgeries keep us safe and give us the freedom to finally to be ourselves.
I am currently saving for all my surgeries which is totalling at £70,000. This money will cover the cost of:
- Consultations
- Surgery
- Recovery
- Travel
- Incidentals + mental/holistic care
- Buffer for losing a month of work due to being self employed
With your help and assistance I will be able to have the necessary surgeries and support in becoming the woman I am as well as providing an extra layer of safety in navigating the world.
Thank you so much for reading this far,
Angel x
