Reinstalling Hope in Nepal
Hello! Our names are Maher Latif and Manjul Bhusal Sharma. We are setting a goal of $3,500.00 USD to help start a educational program that will help support the public schools in Kirtipur, Nepal. This money goes toward:
-Stationary for workshops
-EnglishTextbooks and Board Games
-Setting up scholarships for domestic workers
-And other various fees along the way
Public schools in Nepal fail academically due to their lack of infrastructure, curricular innovation, learning materials and able English teachers. A study conducted by UNESCO Institute of Statistics shows that schools in Nepal have one of the highest Pupil-Teacher Ratios in South Asia. Every year about 78% students from non-private schools fail the national School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam, which is mandatory to pass in order to enroll in 11th grade in the Nepalese school system. Lots of these students are domestic workers in Kathamandu, who were affected by the civil war. These marginalized domestic workers are not achieving their academic and personal goals. Shree Baghbhairab Secondary School in Kirtipur in particular desperately needs English teachers and basic school materials for students.

Our arrival date will be June 1st and we plan to volunteer there througout summer. We will be staying in Manjul's house which is located near the school. We will work tirelessly every morning and evening to help enrich the school experience of these kids with the goal of increasing Shree Baghbhairab Secondary School's passing rate in the SLC.
Each donator, no matter how big or small the donation is, will receive a handwritten postcard from the students of the school when we are back in the US in August.
