Chideza Community Health Post

Chideza is a rural community residing along the Malawi border of Lundazi District, Eastern Province, Zambia. There are about 4000 people living in this area, spread between 10 different villages. This community is a considerable distance away from existing health care facilities, which results in a number of different health issues and deaths that are, for the most part, preventable. The major health issue in this community is the extremely high number of maternal death rates due to mothers delivering children in their mud huts: unsanitary conditions, no treatment for emergencies, and untrained birth attendants. Mothers are delivering children in their homes because they are too far from the nearest delivery center, and during the rainy seasons, the terrain is impassable by foot or bike, which is the only means of transport available here. Aside from maternal death, the community also faces problems of child malnutrition, under immunization for children, diarrheal and other water and sanitation related diseases, and high numbers of Malaria cases. Having a health post would allow for this community to have the access tothe basic health care that they need and deserve. The funds raised through this venue will not build the entire post, but they will very long way in the beginning of construction and acquisition of materials so that the community can move forward in the process. The rest of the funding and supplies will be provided by the Ministry of Health in Zambia, after the initial groundbreaking has taken place by the community. Please help me in assisting Chideza, a community who is extremely committed and in need, in starting the foundation for a Health Post and improved health and livelihood.
