Catoctin Elementary Odyssey of the Mind

Tax deductible
The Catoctin Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) team is going to the World Finals!

The Catoctin Elementary OotM team, a competitive academic "sports" team, has been very successful this year. At the Region 14 competition in March, the team won 1st place of 11 competing teams. On April 26th, the team traveled to Rocky Mount, VA to compete in the OotM VA State competition. Out of 10 divisional teams, the Catoctin Cardinals came through with flying colors and won 2nd place! This qualified them to attend the OotM World Finals at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa from May 28-31. Thousands of participants from the US and 25 other countries come to compete and socialize in a fun, exciting, electric environment that celebrates and encourages creative thinking and problem solving. This is a first for the school in recent memory and a major accomplishment for the team.

The team really needs your support to attend the OotM World Finals competition. The expenses are high, over $1000 per team member. Unless the team receives some immediate financial support, their ability to attend the competition will be in jeopardy. Registration is due early in May and unfortunately the school and PTA cannot provide more money for the team. Now our true best hope is to reach out to you. PLEASE donate what you can to support this VERY worthwhile cause. You will be helping to provide a very exciting, rewarding, once in a lifetime academic experience for a wonderful, successful team that has worked very hard and accomplished so much! Your donation to the Catoctin Elementary PTA (a subordinate organization to the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers) is tax deductible!

The winning team members are:
Kaylynn Breland
Keith Inman-Ryan
Nina Segura
Will Keppel
Aidan Preshong

What is Odyssey of the Mind? Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. Odyssey of the Mind is a non-profit organization.
