Welcoming the New Sprott

About five years ago, Pastor Mike Sprott and his wife Brenda adopted a beautiful girl named Julia, making her the sister to the three Sprott boys--Andrew, Caleb, and Luke. Mike and Brenda’s commitment to love and raise Julia as their daughter has been an inspiration to many, especially those under Pastor Mike’s leadership at Grace Bible Church of Tampa. The adoption process was not easy, and the transition to life with four has not been perfectly smooth. But both the joys and trials that have come with this adoption have only served to deepen Mike and Brenda’s love for the gospel of the God who adopts sinners into His family by the means of immeasurable sacrifice, namely, crushing His own Son (Isaiah 53:10; Ephesians 1:5). If you have been around to witness this family’s love for Julia, then you too have probably marveled all the more at the unspeakable grace that God displays in adopting those who trust in His Son (John 1:12).
Recently, Pastor Mike visited Taipei, Taiwan on a missions trip. There he witnessed orphans in need of permanent homes. His heart was moved enough to desire adopting another child. He and Brenda have spent much time in prayer about this decision, and it seems that the Lord may be leading them to display the glorious gospel again through another adoption. Pastor Mike recently stated, “Blood bought sheep become selfless shepherds of other sheep.” How vividly have he and Brenda embodied this truth for fourteen years in their parenting of their four children, as much as in their spiritual parenting of numerous other men and women in the faith. Here is another opportunity for them to display this truth in their parenting. And here is an opportunity we have to display our support for them. Adoption is not easy, and it is certainly not cheap. But it is absolutely worth it, especially to those who understand all that God spent to adopt us.
