80 miles in 14 days - Beat it with Plowman

On the 13th August 2020, our neighbour  Gavin was taken into hospital where following an MRI scan, a mass was found in his lower spine... and shortly after received the devastating news that the tumour was not just a malignant tumour, but one of the most aggressive forms of cancer – Glioblastoma Multiforme, Grade 4 and is incurable.

Glioblastoma Multiforme is usually found in the brain and surgeons/oncologists at Clatterbridge and The Walton Centre have never seen this before (i.e a primary tumour of this form on the spine) and there is very little research surrounding it, therefore very limited answers to questions surrounding Gavin’s future health and prognosis.

However, given this devastating news, especially after their daughter Daphne was born on 28th June 2020, they are still full of hope and will continue to seek alternative treatments outside of the NHS and refuse to give up!! 

After much thought and research, at this stage Gavin has decided against chemotherapy and radiotherapy for now whilst research continues around other alternative treatments and what real benefit chemotherapy and radiotherapy will have. 

Gavin & Laura continue to look at treatment called "immunotherapy" outside of the UK, however there is still no definitive cost that we have at present as different clinics provide different care. They have decided to put fundraising on hold until after Christmas so they can enjoy a stress free, amazing first Christmas with Daphne and their family! 

That isn’t to say nobody else can fundraise... 

Starting on Monday 30th November.... I am aiming to walk 80miles in 14 days, inbetween full time work and a 10 month old baby to raising money towards Gavin, Laura, Josie & Daphne... every penny will help and will make a huge difference to this lovely family!
