Sam's Study Abroad Trip to Brazil

Who would have thought that a little boy from “small town” Alabama would overcome so much and pursue a master’s degree in theology at Emory University?
But here I am, God has made the impossible, possible.
With the love and support of family and friends, this degree is nearly complete. As the finish line nears, God has provided another meaningful opportunity to travel abroad and learn.
As a part of the Historical and Global Dimensions of Pastoral Counseling class at the Candler School of Theology, I will travel with seven other classmates to São Paulo, Brazil to study models of pastoral care in the area. In conjunction with Universidade de Metodista, we will spend a week in an immersion experience to observe practice of care in local communities and dialogue with scholars, students, and master practitioners about pastoral care and counseling in the Brazilian context.
The Candler School of Theology and Universidade de Metodista have paid the majority of the trip’s cost. I will still need to cover my flight, temporary travel visa (required for educational exchanges), and other expenses.
This opportunity cannot happen without your support. No contribution is too great or too small! Anything helps; everything helps. If you cannot contribute monetarily please continue to send your love and prayers this way.
During this trip, I will maintain a photo/video journal in conjunction with written reflections. I can’t wait to share those with you. I also look forward to the conversations I will have with many of you in the future and I expect that this opportunity will continue to develop my ability to serve you and others in your times of need through pastoral practices.
