Hello all,
Our dad, Steven Laing spent almost 30 years total dedicating his time and life to saving, protecting, and caring for others as a Firefighter/Paramedic. Always giving back to his community, He worked as a volunteer in Wonder Lake, Woodstock, and finally full time in Palatine where he made his career and worked for 25 years. He loved every minute of his job and still misses it every day. He is a third generation firefighter following in his dad, Steve Laing, and his grandpa, James Laing.
Our family has been through so much in the past 2 years, very shortly after our dad retired our mom was having medical issues, we were on the way to take her to the hospital and got in a car accident. Our mom, dad, and our sister Cassie were all involved in the accident. The new vehicle they had got not even 9 months earlier was totaled, our mom needed physical therapy, and surgery on top of missing work. and our dad tore all the ligaments in his thumb and needed surgery. On top of that both of our sisters Megan and Bridget got surgery all within a 5-week time frame this was the beginning of our hardship.
We are starting this account to help raise money for our dad, we found out about 9 months ago that he has prostate cancer. He has had his surgery already however the margins were not clear. therefore he needs 6- 8 weeks of radiation 5 days a week, this will take him out of work.
All their savings were gone, everything he worked his whole life for, gone all gone. In a matter of months, our family lost it all. They are struggling paycheck to paycheck trying to get caught up on the bills that they had accrued due to everyone that still lived at home. We tried anything and everything to get back on our feet.
So finding out that dad had prostate cancer was shocking and hard on all of us, we didn't know how to process it.
With your help and donations, it will help pay for my dads' treatments the last step in his process to be cancer free.
